What a joyful realization that we celebrate and raise awareness of world peace at SL Peacefest at the same time athletes from around the world will be right in the middle of the 2008 Beijing Olympics

One World, One Dream

One World, One Dream

 I checked the schedule, and the games will be in full swing with many popular events taking place simultaneous to our 3 day festival of Peace in Second Life!

A perfect companion and inspiration to bring the world closer, this small and beautiful place, with generous giving of appreciation and hope.  It can be done through Second Life. It has been done! In fact I just learned that Relay for Life earned 200 thousand U.S. Dollars through Second Life in one 24 hour event!

The Theme of this year’s olympics is “One World, One Dream”.  I second that! May that same oneness surround our SL Peacefest events, contributors, performers, panelists, artists, and all who care about our common goal of Peace.

This past April we reached a milestone in our quest for Peace. The Peace symbol turned 50!!

It’s hard to imagine how a simple circle with lines has become the symbol for what we all long for. The mere sight of it invokes a sense of pride amongst those of us whom yearn to see a world without conflict.

Let’s all celebrate in our own way and think about what this image means to you. Let’s all Give Peace a Cake!

A co-worker friend of mine collects old LP’s. Our colleagues

Sometimes bring in theirs to share, and today’s

batch of around 200 classics contained Cat Stevens’

Teaser and the Firecat. There are some great songs on this

Record, such as Morning has Broken, Moonshadow, and yes,

our beloved Peace Train.

My friend knows about my passion for the Peace Train, so

he gave the album to me. Now I have heard the song

a gazillion times but must admit I had never paid a

whole lot of attention to the lyrics, which, I now know

are brilliant and beautiful!

I am sure the full lyrics are out there to

find if you wish, but here are a few nuggets

directly from the inside cover…..

I’ve been smiling lately, dreaming about the world as one and I believe it could be….

Peace train sounding louder, glide on the peace train

Get your bags together, go bring your good friends too, cause it’s getting nearer, it soon will be with you

Come and join the living, its not so far from you and it’s getting nearer

Oh I’ve been crying lately thinking about the world as it is.

Why must we go on hating, why can’t we live in bliss?

Come on now peace train

Oh, please train…

The Peace Train is sounding louder as we get closer to our first SL Peacefest event! Many are joining the group and coming up with fantastic ideas on how to make this event even more in line with our goals and dream of a more peaceful planet.

Kudos to all who are working for peace, and to all who may still join us on our quest!

It may be in the recognition, public recognition, of past wrongs that we take small steps towards peace.  Notably, the Prime Minister of Australia gave a moving speech this week, and took a courageous stand in articulating a dark period in that nation’s history:

“For the pain, suffering and hurt of these ‘Stolen Generations’, their descendants and for their families left behind, we say sorry,” he said. “To the mothers and the fathers, the brothers and the sisters, for the breaking up of families and communities, we say sorry; and for the indignity and degradation thus inflicted on a proud people and a proud culture, we say sorry.”

 Apology has been made; will there be forgiveness?

 “Tribal elders are welcoming Prime Minister Rudd’s apology, saying that for the first time they feel embraced and valued by Australian society.”

The death of Benazir Bhutto today may bring out difficult emotions.  As we carry on in our quest for peace, here are some words of prayer from different religions, to aid us in bringing comfort  and hope to ourselves and others…

Islam:                                                                                                                                               O God! We call you with your beautiful names: the One, the Holy, the Sovereign, the Just, and the Peace. We call with love and sincerity to bring peace to our world and guide our steps to do what is right and what pleases You.

O the Eternal and Compassionate Lord!
Fill our hearts with your Love, and help us to love one another, and show compassion to your servants throughout the world and your creation.

O God! We ask you in submission and humility to allow wisdom to triumph over vanity, truth over falsehood, and love over hate.

Amen

Buddhist                                                                                                                                        Now this triple world
All is my domain;
The Living Beings in it
All are my children
But now this place
Abounds with illness and calamity;
And I alone
Am able to save and protect them.

Christian                                                                                                                                        God of perfect peace,
violence and cruelty can have no part with you.
May those who are at peace with one another
hold fast to the good will that unites them;
may those who are enemies forget their hatred and be healed.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God,
for ever and ever.

Baha’i                                                                                                                                                O Lord!  Draw up the people from the abyss of the ocean of hatred and enmity, and deliver them from the impenetrable darkness.  Unite their hearts, and brighten their eyes with the light of peace and reconciliation.  Deliver them from the depths of war and bloodshed, and free them from the darkness of error.  Remove the veil from their eyes, and enlighten their hearts with the light of guidance.  Treat them with Thy tender mercy and compassion, and deal not with them according to Thy justice and wrath which cause the limbs of the mighty to quake.

Jewish                                                                                                                                                You who make harmony
in the ultimate reaches of the universe,
teach us to make harmony
within ourselves, among ourselves —
and peace for the Godwrestling folk,
the people Israel;
for our cousins the children of Ishmael; and for all who dwell upon this planet.
(Cong: Amein)

Hindu                                                                                                                                                Oh Lord God almighty, may there be peace in
celestial regions.

May there be peace on Earth.
May the waters be appeasing.

May herbs be wholesome, and may trees
plants bring peace to all. May all beneficent
beings bring peace to us.

May all things be a source of peace to us.
And may thy peace itself, bestow peace on all
and may that peace come to me also.

Native American                                                                                                                              O Great spirit of our Ancestors, I raise my pipe to you;
To your messengers in the four winds, and
to Mother Earth who provides for your children.
Give us the wisdom to teach our children to love, to respect, and to be kind to each other, so that they may grow with peace in mind.

Let us learn to share all good things that you provide for us on this Earth.

Tonight at 01:08 EST, the sun will be the farthest away from the Equator, marking the winter solstice. For some, the solstice is a very spiritual experience.

Believers and nonbelievers alike gather each year at stonehenge to celebrate the light in the darkness, the longest night, and the birth of a new season….a new year.

Paul Winter celebrates with his “living music” every year at St John the Divine Cathedral in New York City.  Like a breath of fresh air  and a storm coming all at once, Winter walks us through the darkness to the light in sound and fury, refreshing our spirit and waking our soul.

This line is from the final verse of “Oh Holy Night”, which I just heard Celine Dion Sing for the first time. Give yourself this gift and listen if you have not had the pleasure:

Listen to the whole thing. It’s the rest of that last verse that will take your breath away.

….and in his name all oppression shall cease

We are working toward this very goal with SL Peacefest 08.

So many of us have the passion, unbridled, knowing not where to focus our love and energy.

Now we have such a place. We are engineers of peace, the faithful from all walks with God, and we invite you to join us this coming summer to celebrate peace, embrace peaceful ends to war and oppression, to love one another by doing good works.

Hop on the Peace Train! Contact us in world (Second Life) to be a part of this ground breaking event!
