: ) there’s a great piece of history below!
Peace Train is a group in Second Life dedicated to raising awareness of and funds for identified peace-building efforts around the world. Peace Train is the virtual arm of the US Public Charity, the Peace Train Charitable Trust. 100% of donations (collected within Second Life or through this website) are given to the organizations identified.
We are a loosely organized but tightly focused group of humans. We may take other forms in SL (lol), but the focus is what’s important; we recognize that the small acts that we each do can collectively amount to significant positive impact. We come from many countries, cultures, backgrounds, and are united in our common vision of a more peaceful existence.
So hop on board. : ) If you are present in Second Life, join the group (Peace Train). If you are not and want to volunteer or help out, contact us. If you would like to donate (tax deductible in the U.S.) please do so.
(From 2007-08)
In the beginning, there was a vision.
Destination Peace: PeaceFest 08 is a global, interfaith, cross-cultural effort to create lasting peace through mobilizing dialogue, support and learning with Real Life Peace organizations.
In October of 2007, Cotton Thorne met Tonks Akina and Siri Vita. Among their topics of discussion, they found that they both shared a passion for peace; an abiding hope and desire to advance the cause of peace in the world, and were each wanting to do something new, different and effective about it.
Thus Peace Train was founded, and soon after, the idea of creating the first PeaceFest – a global, mixed reality, three day festival focused on promoting and actively engaging in peace-related activities.
Vision: A three-day event to be held in August of 2008, featuring artists, performances, panel discussions, and more. The PeaceFest will run around the clock in Second Life, and will be integrated with Real Life events. The goal will be to raise funding and volunteerism for a variety of peace-related organizations that serve our global community.
The whistle is blowing! Climb on board the Peace Train. We welcome your gifts of time, ideas, talents and sponsorship.

About PeaceFest ’08:
PeaceFest ‘08, a benefit event for worldwide peace, will take place on August 15th – 17th 2008 in Second Life (SL). Starting at 10AM SLT (Second Life Time, same as Pacific Time) on the 15th and ending at 11:59 PM on the 17th and covering 10 sims (virtual geographic regions) this festival will feature live music, theatre and dance performances, art exhibitions, panel discussions and a rally at the Peace Park in SL Central Park. Master schedules for these exciting events will be posted as we approach the dates.
PeaceFest ‘08 is a global, interfaith, cross-cultural effort to create lasting peace through mobilizing support for and learning with real-life peace organizations. All proceeds from PeaceFest ‘08 will go to benefit Amnesty International, UNICEF, World Conference of Religions for Peace, Uthango Social Investments, and Kids for Peace.
This event represents a true cross-over from real-life to Second Life and back again as we bring real-life speakers in-world to discuss peace-related initiatives in our global open and free SL forum. Musicians and speakers will be streamed into SL while panel discussions and performances are streamed back out.
This is more than an event, it’s a journey….destination peace!
