driving peace

Just a quick thought for the day: It’s a trap to think that peace is a static state. I believe that it must be a conscious act, manifesting itself in how you drive your car, for example. (laughs at self). Or, in how you look into the eyes of the cashier, and make that extra effort to ask them “How’s it goin’?”.

Often it is an active struggle. Our own personal histories and present conflicts challenge us. Peace can be recognizing your sorrow. Peace can be celebrating your joy.

Let’s bring it down to earth. Lao Tse said it best:

If there is to be peace in the world,
There must be peace in the nations.
If there is to be peace in the nations,
There must be peace in the cities.

If there is to be peace in the cities,
There must be peace between neighbours.

If there is to be peace between neighbours,
There must be peace in the home.

If there is to be peace in the home,
There must be peace in the heart.
